Facing the Impossible

December 8, 2010 - 09:48 — Henning

Impossible is happy to announce the opening of a new exhibition at the Impossible Project Space in New York City: "Facing the Impossible".

One may call "Facing the Impossible" an artistic review and outcome of Impossible's ambitions during the last two years. When Impossible embarked on its mission to bring analog instant photography back, photographers worldwide were facing the extinction of one of their most legendary medium. But Impossible faced all challenges and developmental problems and has produced new instant films for Vintage Polaroid cameras.

The portrait series "Facing the Impossible" celebrates this accomplishment and faces the Impossible possibilities of analog instant photography today - in the form of portraits. Since the introduction of the first Polaroid cameras in 1948, portraits have been an extremely popular and practical use of analog instant film. Not only did Andy Warhol, Robert Mappelthorpe, Chuck Close and Lucas Samaras portray themselves and their contemporaries, but modeling agencies, artists, families, party people, parents and pet owners also shoot the subjects of their interest with a Polaroid camera. The directness and instant-ness of analog instant film in portrait photography is an easy metaphor for the instant and direct connection that human beings discover every single day – both with the people around them as well as with themselves.

For "Facing the Impossible", photographers Adam Goldberg, Adarsha Benjamin, Chloe Aftel, Irène Nam, Jen Altman, Lou O'Bedlam, Mikael Kennedy, Patrick Winfield, Rommel Pecson, The Gentlemen Amateur, Thibault Tourmente and Tim Mantoani have interpreted the artistic, historic, social and connective elements of the "Portrait" theme on Impossible PX 600 Silver Shade UV+ and PX 70 Color Shade PUSH! film.

Paris Photo 2009

November 16, 2009 - 22:09 — Uma

Paris Photo - the world's biggest photography event, takes place this week between the 19th and 22nd of Nov. The event is scheduled to showcase 89 galleries from 23 different countries. It is a great place to meet and greet international photographers besides other photography enthusiasts and collectors. Paris Photo 2009 is expected to be attended by thousands of visitors over the 4 days. So, if you are an amibitious photographer, this is that 'not-to-be missed' event of the year :-) This year the spotlight is on Arab countries and Iran - an intriguing subject given that photography as an art and a way of expression, is relatively new in that part of the world!

As you would guess, a team from FotoTV is heading to Paris....right where all the action is. And if you are too, then do catch us at the event!

FROM OUR NEW VIDEOS DEPARTMENT - First, we have have a vidoe featuring Julia-Fullerton Batten, a world famous female photographer. In an exclusive conversation with FotoTV she tells us how her teenage years unconsciously triggered her first major fine art photography project. Second video, demonstrates how you can make a heavy duty Boom Stand with things bought from a hardware store!
Howzzat?
