Summary

The TED (Technology, Entertainment, Design) conference, held annually in Long Beach California, bring together the worlds most fascinating speaker, thinkers and doers, in TED's stated mission "to spread ideas".

The participants come not just from the fields of technology, entertainment, design, but also from business, science and the arts. Over a 1000 people attend every year to listen to speakers who are challenged to give the talk of their life, in 18 minutes !

At the conference, the TEDPrize is awarded to 3 exceptional individuals, who each receive $100,000. Previous TEDPrize winners include, among others, Bill Clinton and Bono. In 2007 the award went to documentary photographer James Nachtwey and this bonus movie shows his acceptance speach.

The TEDPrice winner is also, much more importantly, granted "One Wish to Change the World." To realize the winners' wishes the TEDPrize leverages the unique resources within the TED Community "We work closely with TED sponsors and attendees to obtain pledges of support for the TED Prize winners. These pledges can take the form of business services, hardware and software, publicity, infrastructure, advice, connections ... Any and all pledges of support are welcomed."
