The American Jock Sturges studied perceptual psychology and photography. Today he is known internationally for his recordings on Californian, Spanish and Frenche nudist beaches. His intention lays not in eroticism. He is concerned with the representation of beauty, fragility and especially of "truth" that runs through his entire work as an internal claim.
For Sturges a true image arises when the model can be totally herself. Without instructions - and at the beginning also without camera - a situation can be quite natural and produces interesting moments that have to be catched very fast.
In our interview the photographer reports on his way to this extraordinary genre. He also introduces his latest book "Fanny", which was published in 2014 by Steidl Verlag. It is named after a young woman that Sturges already photographed as a five years old girl.
