Joey L
Beyond Twilight
Summary
In this FotoTV film, 20 year-old, top photographer Joey L talks about his work, technique, lighting set-ups, and the equipment he uses.
When most teenagers are thinking about video games, mobile telephones and facebooking, Joey L was at the beginning of his skyrocketing career. At the young age of 17 he was already traveling the world. He began as as a small-town photographer shooting the local bands of the area, but that was just a stepping stone for Joey L. His approach is always simple, to make his work come out how he has envisioned it. Always dark and edgy, his images are akin to to the commercial style most sought after by clients today. As time progressed, Joey L perfected his craft, using anywhere from 1-10 lights for a shot making him a master of lighting. He sees his work as a great conversational piece when visiting clients, combining his personal work and commercial work in one portfolio to enhance the visual experience.
Joey L. suggests that future photographers interested in traveling the world for their work should visit tropical countries first, before it is too late and they no longer exist. He also stresses the importance for young photographers to learn the business side of photography in addition to the creative side to avoid being taken advantage of in regards to financial compensation.
At only 20 years old, photography is a an integral part of Joey L's life and an important learning tool for his self development. Through his incredibly realistic, although highly stylized work, he has had the most meaningful experiences and met the most interesting people of his life.
