Summary

In this FotoTV. interview Duane Michals reflects on perspectives of photography.

For him, there are two fundamentally different perspectives: One can consider photography as a "tyranny of the moment" and wait passively for an event which deserves to be photographed. Or one can take the reins and convert photography to an art that is not dependent on perfect moments.

In Michals' opinion not all types of photography can be seen as art. He gives examples for inartistic work, and for those that he admires.

He also speaks about his own art wich is partly insired by cinema and supplemented by additional texts.
