After his experiences in professional, commissioned nature photography, Jim Brandenburg nowadays switched to exclusively work on free projects. How he got to this point is a story that is full of interesting details.

He gives account of professional influences that were important for him, when he started his career, and that he still looks up to today. Only after his first visit to Germany, where he gave this interview, he got in touch with the roots of his family in this country.
